Job Description
Ensure the critical areas are operated and maintained in accordance with industry standards at all times.
Carry out Daily Data Centre walk rounds to ensure critical areas comply with internal policies and that all environments are within SLA
Ensure that any issues are escalated ServiceNow as required and resolved as soon as practical.
Carry out hands and eye requests on behalf of customers as required or requested
Ensure critical areas are clear of all unnecessary equipment, accessories and waste to ensure security systems, fire systems and evacuation procedures are maintained and professional integrity not compromised.
Responsible for the isolation/de-isolation of alarms and fire suppression systems. This also includes monitoring the systems when isolated and controlling the sub-contractors during these events.
Take part in an on-call rota and attend site with or nominate a relevant contractor to deal with out of hours issues relating to technical areas.
Report and make aware personnel as required of any specification situations outside of standard operating procedures throughout the estate.
Ensure all necessary persons are made aware of technical issues relating to the Sure Estate and escalate via ServiceNow to include senior staff and/or contractors where appropriate.
Assist with the maintenance of other mechanical and electrical services as required.
Operate the internal security and alarm system as required, ensure key knowledge is transferred across the department as required to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing.
Provide basic training when requested on the access control security system.
Ensure contractors working on critical areas within the estate are correctly authorised with the current permit to work system and appropriate security access in place.
Carry out any isolations of equipment as may be required to issue permits to work.
Qualifications
Experience in a critical equipment environment.
Issue of Permit to Work and associated systems.
Isolation of systems relevant to permit to work including fire suppression systems, fire and security alarms.
Knowledge of data centre structure.
Knowledge of data centre power and communications cabling.
Knowledge of fire and security systems.
Knowledge of IT system basic rack structure and tape backup systems.
Ability to communicate with relevant parts of the business.
Ability to work independently to meet short term goals.
An understanding of the data centre strategy and their contribution to it.
Demonstrate a positive, proactive and professional approach always.
Ability to use business computer systems.
Ability to use Microsoft Office particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Valid driving licence.
Technical qualifications in Critical power and Air Conditioning Systems.
Knowledge of air conditioning systems and their methods of operation.
Knowledge of UPS systems.
Knowledge of Fire Alarm systems including VESDA and FM200 extinguishant gas.
Knowledge of Standby generators and control systems.
Understanding of the financial elements of data centres both revenue and cost.
Knowledge of building fabric and mechanical and electrical systems.
Knowledge and operation of automated monitoring and control systems (e.g. BMS,).
