Job Purpose 

The Tax Analyst is responsible for the administration of US tax-related processing and reporting in relation to assets held by clients of Nedbank Private Wealth, together with ensuring the obligations of FATCA/CRS regulations are met. The role supports tax controls across securities and cash events, ensuring correct documentation, withholding, reconciliations, submissions, and audit readiness. The role helps maintain tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions while enhancing client experience and operational accuracy.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Administer the bank’s Qualified Intermediary (QI) function, maintaining tax documentation and US safekeeping requirements with Citi.
  • Validate and process W‑series forms (W‑8/W‑9) for clients and complete corporate W‑series forms for onward submission.
  • Apply US internal stock movements, internally and with Citi, to ensure appropriate withholding tax is applied.
  • Process monthly and annual tax reclassifications.
  • Identify and resolve incorrect withholding tax deductions across income types and asset classes.
  • Complete 1099 and 1042/1042‑S reconciliations and reporting, meeting IRS/QI requirements and deadlines.
  • Monitor for IRS/QI regulatory changes, updating procedures, controls, and tax documentation requirements.
  • Support and contribute to the QI Periodic Review, QI action plans, remediation work, and operational tax meetings.
  • Review and maintain client tax documentation and entity classifications for FATCA/CRS, including periodic refresh cycles.
  • Prepare data extracts, reconciliations, and submission‑ready packs for FATCA/CRS reporting across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Perform integrity checks, investigate discrepancies, and maintain audit‑ready evidence for all tax processes.
  • Respond to QI/US tax and FATCA/CRS queries from internal stakeholders, custodians, and auditors.
  • Process tax‑related transactions to client accounts, including journals and FX instructions, within delegated authorities.
  • Investigate and resolve stock or cash reconciliation breaks linked to tax processing.
  • Produce client Income and Trade Reports, as required.
  • Manage and triage the Operational Tax mailbox, ensuring timely responses.
  • Participate in UAT for tax‑related system changes and contribute to continuous improvement of processes and controls.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to colleagues and assist in onboarding junior team members.

Skills and Experience

  • 3–5 years’ experience within a similar role.
  • Strong subject‑matter understanding of US withholding tax and the QI function.
  • Previous experience within investment operations, with specific exposure to client tax processing – Advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of FATCA/CRS rules, documentation standards, and entity classifications – Desirable.
  • Understanding of jurisdictional withholding tax across multiple markets and asset classes.
  • Experience with reconciliations, MI preparation, and audit evidence requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • ​Comfortable liaising with custodians and audit stakeholders

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’s or equivalent, with a pass at grade C or higher in Maths and English.
  • Preferred: Educated to A-level or equivalent, or above.
